Rhee Taekwondo is Australia’s largest martial arts school, with centres across the country.
In 1970, World Master Chong Chul Rhee moved to Australia after serving in the Korean Special Forces and dedicated his life to training students in the art of Rhee Taekwon-Do. Master Rhee’s legacy continues in Far North Queensland, where expert instructors he personally trained run centres across Cairns and the Tablelands.

Approximately 1,300 years ago, during the Silla Dynasty in Korea, an ancient form of unarmed combat—now known as Tae-Kyon—evolved. This ancient art has since spread throughout the world and is known today in various forms as Taekwon-Do.
Rhee Taekwon-Do is defined as a dynamic system of unarmed combat for self-defence, combining the skilled application of powerful punches, flying kicks, blocks, dodges, and interceptions. The Rhee Taekwon-Do practitioner uses well-trained hands, arms, and feet to quickly and effectively immobilise any attacker.
Master Rhee is the official Founder of Taekwon-Do in Australia, serving as Master Instructor and Chief Instructor for Australia and New Zealand. He was also President of the Taekwon-Do Instructors Federation of Australia and New Zealand.
Many ask: What does Taekwon-Do mean? The name was chosen for its apt description of the art itself:
Tae = foot
Kwon = fist
Do = art
